Support The Troops Independence Day Ironman News |
5-10Year Old Ironman July 22,2006 630am
The Ironman started off wet and raining. The set up crew along with some parents and the Play It Again Sports Staff came in a 600am to work on removing the water off the rink. The 10U and 8U Ironman started a hour and thirty minutes late but was a great sucess even for the low turnout due to the rain the night before. There were three teams in the 10U 8U tourney which turned into a true ironman with teams playing back to back most of the day. The Black Team (DJ Jenks, Nick Kosezlak, Garrett Morgan, Seth Jenks, and there Goalie Nick Winecoff) took the round robin play with a 3-1 record with the White Team (Zach Herndon, Daniel Odom, Nick Morgan, Ben Kosezlak Goalie) and the Blue Team ( Matthew Tebbens, Logan Jenks, Daniel Bazzrea, Jermiaha Foster goalie) both finishing with 1-2-1 record in round robin play. The White and Blue Teams went into the single elimnation playoffs for chance to play the Black team for the Gold. During the Round Robin play the Blue Team won 3-1 and tied the White Team 0-0. The Blue team led by Matthew Tebbens came out and beat the Whites 3-0 to head to the Championship Round. The Championship Game looked to be a good one, however the Black Team came ready to skate and won the Gold 3-0. Congratulations to Nick Winecoff MVP for the 10U 8U Tourney. Nick only allowed 2 goals throughout whole tournament and was the dominating force for the black team sucess.
11-14 Year Old Ironman July 22, 2006 630pm
With another rain shower shooting through at 4pm we had to get hard working on the floor removing water again for the 11-14 year olds to get started at 630pm. With a good breeze and a little sun the floor was set to go at starting time. The air was thick and humid and with a 83 degree temp the kids would be playing in tough conditions bringing the Ironman out in all of them. We were ready to go with 4 teams. The Green Team( )The White Team( ) The Orange Team( ) and The Blue Team( ). Travis Holstien and Ryan Garrett dressed out as the only two goalies. In round robin play the Green Team finished first with a 2-0-1 record with there only tough game coming to a tie with the white team 1-1. The White Team finished second with a 1-1-1 record with the only lost coming to the hands of the Blue Team 1-0. There was a tie for the 3rd place seed between the Blue and Orange Team with both 1-2-0 records. The Orange Team won on the Head to Head Match Up claiming the 3rd seed with the Blues coming in 4th. Heading to the playoff round the Green Team was matched up against the Orange Team. This was a close fight to the last seconds when Jamie Garrett of the Orange Team took a shot in the final seconds but was saved by goalie Travis Holstien giving the Green Team the victory 2-1. The White Team went up against the Blue Team in the second playoff game which the Blues defeated the Whites in the round robin 1-0. This was another game down to the final seconds. The Whites took the win 2-1 and played defensive in the last minutes keeping the Blues out of the offensive zone. This placed the Greens and Whites in the Championship Game for the Gold. In round Robin play the teams tied 1-1. With a thunderstorm coming in from the west and the wind picking up the Whites only had a few mintues rest before taking on the Greens before the storm hit. This was a hard fought game with both goalies making save after save. The score was tied 1-1 with three mintues left when DJ Jenks shot from the point and the Whites scored there second. The goal hit the 5 hole of Goalie Travis Holstien slowly rolled through for the score. The Whites set up for the defensive struggle trying to keep Forrest Walker and the rest of the Greens from scoring. The Whites Goalie Ryan Garrett stood tall with the defense and shut down the Greens in the final minutes to take the win 2-1 for the Gold. MVG of the Tourney is awarded to Ryan Garrett. The MVP of the Tourney goes to Forrest Walker of the Green Team.
14-18 Year Old Ironman July 23,2006 630pm
The sun was out and with a temp of 82 degrees at starting time the 14-18 years wear geared up to play some fun Ironman Hockey. There was somewhat of a low turnout due to the rain and storms over the weekend but we were able to to field 3 teams. The White Team( Danny Barton, Lewis Baltz and Justin Cochran), The Blue Team(Trevor Barton, Nick Simms and Dan McMahon), and The Orange Team(David Harner, Jamie Garrett and Ryan Garrett). The goalies were Alex Pierce and Travis Holstien. The Whites came out blazing in round robin play seeding first with a 3-1-0 record with there only lost coming by the sticks of the orange team 3-0 in the first game of the night. The Orange and the Blues tied for second in round robin with 1-2-1 records with the Orange winning the gaols against match up. The Whites drew the bye in the first round of the doulbe elimanation playoffs, so the Oranges and and the Blues set up for the first playoff game. This was a tough game going into a OT shootout win with Jamie Garrett shooting the winning goal. That put the Whites up against the Orange with a split of round robin wins the teams headed to the floor with a short 2 minute break. The game seem like it would never end with the teams skating to a 4-4 tie in regulation time and 4 OT shootouts With Ryan Garrett picking up the winning goal to advance the orange to the Championship Round. The Whites headed to the losers bracket to play the Blues. This game stayed scoreless for the first three minutes and then both teams started to exchange goals with the Whites coming out on top 4-3. With the sun down and under the lights we headed to the Championship round with the Orange VS the Whites. By now both teams had played 6 games heading into there 7th of the night. The orange team on a winning streak carried it through the playoffs with a dominating win 3-0 taking the Gold. MVP player of the Tourney , yes you can believe it Jamie Garrett who was in the right place at the right time scoring goals for his team at the time they needed to carry a win. The MVG player of the Tourney goes to Travis Holstien who stepped up and work his way through the playoffs and took the Gold Medal with a shutout in the Championship Game.
A special thanks goes out to Bruce Garrett, Kevin Bazzrea , Doug Jenks, all the parnets and Play It Again Sports for helping with the tournament. A portion of the proceeds were donated to Carol Barton at the end of the tournament to help with The Matthew Barton Memorial Rink Fund. |
